I'm in need of a good character letter for a dear freind that's in jail. This person really needs help. The state has offer a program for him, and I really think it will work. This person has a loving family that's willing to do what ever it take. This person also has a daughter that's getting ready to graduate from high school and need to see har father there.  Her mom has had three surgeries since they have been in California.  Please send mee a good letter to take to court on June 16, 2004.

The purpose of this is to provide a character reference for Mr. Jeremy Swanson whom I have known as a classmate, roommate, and friend for a period of five
years.

I first met Jeremy in our freshman year at Adirondack College. We were both studying a general arts program there and became acquainted through a number
of common classes that we shared. By second year, we had become friends and decided to take an off-campus apartment together. We shared that living arrangement
until we both graduated last year.

Accordingly, having gotten to know Jeremy so well over the past few years, I believe puts me in a position to provide you with a pretty accurate assessment
of his character.

As a student, Jeremy was a hard-working and highly committed to his education. I believe that his excellent transcripts will attest to that fact. In addition,
he was quite involved in a number of extra-curricular activities including the track and field team and the school newspaper. In fact, in his last two
years he was Assistant Editor of the "Campus Inquirer." Outgoing, and always willing to help someone out, Jeremy was very popular with his fellow students.

As a roommate, Jeremy was a great choice. He was very neat and tidy at all times and he liked things in the apartment to be kept orderly. He made a point
of cleaning his own room and the common living areas on a regular basis. He socialized occasionally at home but was always respectful of my needs, and
he and his guests kept the noise down and ended their activities at a reasonable hour.

As a friend, Jeremy Swanson is a standout. He is a loyal, honest, considerate, and supportive individual who has the ability to see and understand things
from another person's perspective. He is a great direct communicator and knows how to raise and discuss common living issues and problems in a non-threatening
manner. He is hyper-sensitive and is always tuned into how another person might "feel" in a given situation. He likes to have fun too. During our years
at school we maintained an ongoing friendly rivalry on the squash courts.

To tell the truth, I really can't think of anything of consequence on the negative side of the personality ledger when it comes to Jeremy. All in all, I
would have to say that Jeremy Swanson is a fine, well-balanced person with an abundance of positive qualities.

I need some help writing a characer letter on behalf of my cousin who has recently been taken back into custody for a parole or probation violation. He has been out about a year and has been doing incredibly well. In the past he has avoided all responsibilities of his probation. This time he has gotten a very good job, has been working for the last 5 months with this company and has made early advancement in his job position. He has also gone back to school studying electronics. He has developed the best attitude and outlook on life which he has never really had before. The violation he has now is for having possetion of pepper spray (it was found in the house of him and his fiance, which is concidered to be a weapon. The only thing is that it doesn't belong to him. It belongs to his fiance who had received it at a self defence class that she had taken after being raped. I feel that if that convict and sentence him now that any hope for him and his future may be lost.

I don't know if I should write the letter to the courts stating the above or not. Please help.

Notes:

1) Use some wordprocessing software and make this a title. Bold and underline. Don't go nuts with the fancy fonts, just make it look professional.

2) I am not sure if he is awaiting trial or what is happening next. You need to fill in the details.

3) Provide proof if possible. Doctor's note, police report, or whatever information you might have to corroborate this fact.

4) Supply proof of his job...if you can get a letter, even a quick letter from his employer stating he was an excellent employee, so much the better.

5) You really want to bolster this portion of the letter to show that he has behaved and made signficant progress. What I have written is just to get you started.

6) You need to think about how you will deal with the pepper spray going forward. Will she continue to carry pepper spray? If so, how you will address this issue with the courts?
