Change this one dollar bill into a quarter

Magician : I can change this one dollar bill into a quarter.

Can I use the word change when I make something different from it?

I know that I have to use the word exchange when I need the same amount of money, considering the value of the money in each country but I am wondering if I am a magician and then I think I can say the sentence.

What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual in advance.
