Change or switch

Hi,

I bought something from the grocery store. I lifted them and carried them home.
When one hand felt tired, I transferred the things to the other hand.
So what should I say to describe this action? For instance, I tell my child:
Let me change hand or switch hand.
Is that natural?
Thank you very much.

'Let me change hands.'

Just a minor point. In American English slang this says, "I stole them", which contradicts "I bought" earlier. I think we would more likely say "I picked them up and carried them home".

Thank both of you.
Thank Jim.
Your answer reminded me of a sign I had seen in the grocery store: be careful of shoplifters.

How astute of you! Yes, it's the same sense of "lift" once again.
