Change of scenery

Hi,

“He needed a change of scenery.”

I know this version, but I was wondering if this works as well ->

“He needed to change the scenery.”

Thank you.

The expression is "change of scene", not "scenery", and no, "he needed to change the scene" would not work.

No, that's not going to work well. It sounds like a description of a stage manager's job.
