There used to be a time when medical professionals may it be Doctors, General Practitioners, Surgeons, or others were considered a God for their knowledge and trusting position within a society. Nowadays this thought has been erased from the minds of many people mainly with the increase of liability claims, lawsuits and other issues involved. In this research paper we will be looking at the ethical challenges involved in the medical field of Dentistry.

Firstly, what is Ethics? In terms of medicine ethics is the study of moral values as they apply to medicine and according to Jay Healey Technique: Teaching Law and Ethics to Medical and Dental Students only eight percent out of the 108 medical schools in the United States teach law and ethics as a required course while forty percent of the medical schools offer them as part of a required course.

METHODOLOGY

Firstly I conducted an interview with Dr. Jack Daniels*, a local dentist, who agreed to participate. The interview was conducted in order to create a structure for the research as to what would be the most common issues encountered within the dentistry field. The sample questionnaire for the interview has been attached to the appendix page. With the help of the interview I was able to narrow down to two major challenges within the dentistry field. I did further research to find information from various databases and organizational websites if that were the case with other dentists too. I also managed to find statistical information regarding trends in liability claims. Lastly I focused on the two most important issues in the field and provided recommendations on how to improve.
