For as long I can remember, I have dreamed of studying abroad. I was a Dominican teenager who had no idea of what was it like living in the countryside in the United States of America. When I arrived at the airport I was excited, full of curiosity and my heart was pounding really fast. After arriving at my host’s home, seeing this senior couple I thought that this new journey might be a bit boring but that wasn’t the case. When I attended the health students program of the university I enrolled at during the summer it wasn’t what I expected, because there where people from all over the world rather than a lot of U.S citizens. In the beginning it was hard for me to fully understand the classes, order my food and get back home, all of it because of the language barrier. Once, I even happened to skip lunch because I couldn’t communicate well what I wanted. The worst was when during my Biology and Anatomy exams I didn’t understand some terms and those are subjects very much needed in my chosen career.
