"...centring on...."

This issue centring on the jury system has attracted much conflicting opinions from the community, the victims and the defendant.

Would you say this sounds natural?

Also, I am a bit unsure about 'centring on'. Should I leave out 'on'?

Thank you

Centering seems uncalled for here; if you did use it, though, on is essential. This issue of / regarding the jury system has attracted many conflicting opinions from the community, the victims and the defendants.

Thanks for replying Mister Micawber.

This is going to sound silly but I was just wondering if I use 'centering on' in my oral presentation, is it going to make it sound more interllectual?

Thanks again

Not a silly question. We often have the choice of formal/informal words. However, I just think that 'center on' here is rather vague and inappropriate. An issue is an issue, and is concerned with something specific. You might have a group of issues 'centering on ***'.
