Celtic influences on the English language

A recent Channel 4 (UK) programme called "Britian AD" made the claim that there had been the a traditional view that the Welsh and Celtic languages had very little impact on Old English. This surprised me as I've always been use to the notion that English "borrows" words from anywhere and everywhere. Does anybody know an any sources or books (i.e. further reading) that deals with this subject in more detail?

Cheers,
-Jason

I don't know of a book, but I know of a few words that got into English. I also agree that it is surprising that there are so few words in that recent genetic studies show that a large part of the ancestry of people in Southwest England is Celtic. words.

Yes, clearly, such books need updating; and even if they stick to their guns, they must confront the new archaeological and DNA evidence. Dav

To get serious again.
The English do look like the Danes, especially in the Northeast. I've heard that there is a way of counting sheep in England where people use a pre-Celtic language.
Can someone do a google search and post some interesting stuff they find out about this? Thanks.
