Cell piece or cell peace?

From the dialogue of an old US movie (1940s):

District Attorney: Take Wescott to the cell (piece / peace) and tell Stewart to phone the chief jailer.

Police Officer: Yes, sir.

I think that "piece" and "peace" sound alike and I can't be sure which one makes sense in the context: (1) "pìece" as Department or Section, or (2) "peace" meaning sarcastically the tranquility and silence (of the police station cells).
