Celebrity Sellers

Peter wants to buy basketball shoes but he can’t choose between Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. Here is the problem, he said to Tom, his good friend, “ sells Reebok shoes and McGrady sells Adidas shoes. So I have to decide which player I like better and then buy the shoes he sells.” “That is so stupid,” said Tom. “You should just buy the best product at the best price!”
A lot of boys and girls have Peter’s problem these days. On television and in magazines we see celebrities selling things. They sell everything from soft drinks to skin cream. Advertisers know that young people are interested in fashion and being cool. They also know that young people have money to spend. So, using celebrities to sell their products is a good way to get kids to buy them.
Most of these products are probably okay but they cost more. I think Tom has the right idea. When you go shopping, don’t worry about which celebrity you like best, just buy the best product at the best price.

Michael Jordan is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. His picture was once on every box of Wheaties, an American cereal known as “the breakfast of champions.” The ads said if we ate Wheaties for breakfast, like Mike, we would become champions, too.
I ate Wheaties for breakfast, but I never became an all-time great athlete like Mike. Finally, I stopped eating it and ate a cereal that tasted better.
is good at basketball because of his hard work, talent and love of the game, not because of what he maybe eats for breakfast. Just because our favorite star advertises a product it doesn’t mean we will be more like them if we use it.
