cave system

By foot and by boat, visitors can admire spectacular stalagmites growing up out of the floor, waterfalls and underground rivers in this 1000-meter-long cave system.

Hi,

For a start, does "admire" in the above mean "appreciate?"

Second, could I delete "system" in the above without making a change in meaning? Thanks.

Admire=look at with admiration=look at with appreciation for its/their beauty/magesty/etc. Because they are really a series of caves going from one to the other, it's a cave system. If you omitted the word system, it would sound like one giant cave.
