Hi all,
Below is my essay for the topic: “ It is said that people’s life now is becoming more and more stressful. What are the causes and how to solve it? ”
Could you please have a look on it and score it (if possible)?
"As the economy grows incessantly, people have now enjoyed a more convenient and fully-equipped life but experienced, at the same time, many stressful moments. This essay aims to shortly explain the causal relationship between the emerging trends of modern life and human stress as well as give some pieces of advice.
Two features of modern life seem to be the main source of individual stress: competition and consumerism. Globalisation and technology development induce everyone to race. Company owners compete with others from all over the world, expecting their employees to be multitasking, quickly decisive, highly effective, and devoting. The employees then compete with colleagues to be promoted and with themselves to meet all the deadlines and superior’s requirements. Consequently, nowadays, many people work overtime or even in holidays under intense pressure. Besides, advertisements as an essential part of business always persuade the audience to buy the lastest products that they even don’t need. Affected by them, a part of the society is becoming consumerist or materialist. They put, then, extra pressure on themselves to possess luxury things like race cars, 5-star micheline foods, or haute couture clothes. As a result, modern humans are frequently overloaded and do not have enough time for themselves or for their family which, sometimes, leaves them the feeling of loneliness and anxiety – main factors inducing and stimulating the overstress.
To protect ourselves from this psychologically unhealthy feeling and manage it, regular exercises might be the best therapy as many researches show the positive effect of sport on mental and physical human health. Yoga is especially a good example in this case. Yoga inspires zen attitude and teaches the practiser how to keep their mind peaceful. Another classic solution for any mental illness is effective communication with relatives, friends, and especially immediate family members. To say the least, the latter is the last ones who would stay by ourselves and buffer us in any slings and arrows of the life even when everyone else leaves us. Needless to say, they would give us sincere advice for our sake but not for their profit like our employer or the buyer.
In conclusion, stress is a seemingly inevitable consequence of modern lifestyle which encourages people to devote themselves to work and buy more than they really need. It is suggested that stressors do more regular healthy activities like yoga and hold conversations with other, especially family member to achieve a more balance between work and life and release themselves from depression."
