Cause-effect relationship

The yield per acre of coffee berries varies enormously because a single tree, depending on both its size and on climate and altitude, could produce enough berries to make between one and twelve pounds of dried beans a year.

We got "varies"(indicating certainty) in the independent clause and "could produce"(indicating uncertainty) in the dependent clause.I guess it affects the cause-effect relationship. Is such construction all right?..

Perhaps little knowledge is too dangerous...Emotion: smile

Can someone please clarify..
