How can good housing architecture improve the quality of life for Korean people?
Housing architecture needs to be suited to the condition of the society where the house is being built. In case of Korea, housing architectures of underground parking lots, south-facing houses and high-rise buildings have contributed to improve the quality of life for Korean people.
First, underground parking lots freed the resident, especially children from the accidents which occur in a housing complex. Instead of driving cars on earth, there is a garden and a play ground. On top of that, residents do not need to check around them if there is a car coming in the complex. Thanks to the underground parking garage, the residents are more safe.
Second, a house with a southern exposure enables Korean to reduce the bills of heating and electricity. Korea has four distinctive seasons and Koreans air-condition in summer and heat in winter. Orienting a living room and a main room of a house toward the south means that the rooms receive a lot of sun during the day and don't need to use lighting equipment as well as heating system this time. As a result, housing architecture which faces to the south lessens the living expenses of Korean.
Last, high-rise buildings ease the housing shortage problem in metropolitan area in the country. Because more and more Koreans have come to the cities hoping for better work and pay, certain cities are suffered from the overpopulation. In 2006, Korean government alleviated the restriction of high-rise building that allows constructing higher than 15-story building. Due to it's feature that it accommodates quite a number of people in a limited site, Koreans are less stressful on commuting far distance from their work to home.
There might be other housing architectures that affect the quality of Korean people's life, housing architectures of underground parking lots, south-facing houses and high-rise buildings certainly raise the quality of life for Koreans.
