You can't fit your hand in an outlet, unless the faceplate is removed.

If you stick your finger [or a paperclip or tine, etc.] in an outlet, you'll get shocked.

It can, but it usually isn't.

In my experience, the word is usually used in a serious context where the shock kills someone.

Yes, it the electricity kills you. It it only shocks you, and you live to tell about it, no.

In the US, electrocution used to be used to punish criminals who were given the death penalty.
It was horrible and ghastly.

Speaking about electrocution reminded me of an old question which I've been wanted to ask for a long time.
Would you please tell me the different types of capital punishments?
And is electrocution being used right now?

In my opinion, countries should not have capital punishment.
In the US, some states do not have capital punishment, but others do.
First degree (intentional and planned) murder by a sane person is the most common crime which carries the death penalty.
The most common method for execution is a lethal dose of drugs. Electrocution is used, but it is very rare.
