Category of the theatre

Hi. Does the phrase "the theatre" in one of the definitions for the word "drama" given in the Collins COBUILD Advanced Learner's English Dictionary, which is given below, mean the whole category or class or theatre? Also, does the definite article "the" in front of the word "theatre" extend to the word "radio," too? Thank you in advance for your help.

A drama is a serious play for the theatre, television, or radio.
