Catching up

Hi,

From these sentences:

It's going to be hard to contain myself on the day of the season premiere.
Last season leading into the season premiere, I was in the process of catching up on the show. And it was well-timed so that it was only a day or two before the premiere that I was caught up.

Does "catching up" mean to bring an activity to a state of currentness?

Thanks in advance,
