Catch on/wound up

Hi

The fat man weakly threw a punch at Danny, catching him lightly on the knee. Danny wound up to nail him again, but then just pushed him away.

Does it mean the fat one tried to punch him and hit him lightly in the knee?

I think "wound up" jeat means that he prepared himself to punch/kick/hit him again?
