Catch oneself feeling ashamed of...?

Hello everybody.

I'm reading How Do You Live by Genzaburo Yoshino.

you will eventually come to understand that to lead a life of poverty is

often to go about one’s life feeling inferior to others.

It’s easy to catch oneself feeling ashamed of one’s shabby clothes, squalid home, or coarse food.

Of course there are also magnificent people who take rightful pride in themselves as they live their lives, despite the fact that they are poor.

Don't you think these three parts contradict each other?

It says poverty makes you feel inferior and it is easy for us to prevent from feeling ashamed of our shabby clothes, squalid home, or coarse food. Then it says but there are some people who are proud inspire of being poor?

Thanks ??
