Cash

Dear teachers,

The word" cash" has several meanings and I'm confused.

What type of money is it? Coin? Paper notes?

As in;

We've got footage of you placing two bags on JFK carousel three, and abandoning them to purchase a last-minute flight with "cash".

Thanks a million beforehand.

Although "cash" can include coins, in American English, I think it connotes primarily paper notes. I have seen the phrase "cash and coin" to make clear that both are present.

In finance (as opposed to bags at the airport) "cash" also includes many assets that are readily convertible to cash in relatively short order.
