Cases of referring generally to itself

Hi,

I think I wrote a post asking if the sentence "What color is grass?" is correct with it not having an article in front of grass and I think GG said that it is good since it is talking about itself generally.

Can anyone expand on that and give me some more examples as being used in the world of writing I think I got the main idea but want to see more examples, if I may.
