Cartoony or cartoonish

Hi. Please help. I think we can put the letter "y" at the end of a certain noun to create an adjective in possession of certain quality or a certain characteristic of what that noun represents (I hope I have written it to correctly reflect what I wanted to say - not sure, though), and I think we can say the same for the suffix "ish."

Now, please tell me what the difference might be for these.

It has a certain cartoony/cartoonish feel to it.

Both suffixes can generally be added in casual English, but you need to access a dictionary to check acceptability. com ]ONE LOOK DICTIONARY SEARCH[/url] will show you that only 'cartoonish' has general acceptance.
