Carrying

He came out of the bathroom carrying the washing machine.

Could I use another word than "carrying" to tell that the washing machine is heavy and that he is struggling to carry it? Maybe "clutching"?

Top answer

clutching does not work for heavy things. Only a very strong person could carry a washing machine. How about dragging ?

There are small, apartment-sized washing machines a man could carry, but it would be a struggle in a confined space like a bathroom. He might hoick it into the hallway and wrestle it out the front door and then lug it out to the curb for the trashmen.
