Clark and Lois don't like each other much. But Lois decides to move in with Clark.
Clark: Lois, do you think it's a good idea if we live and work together?
Lois: Carpooler's dream. (We'll be like family?) Come on. What's the worst
thing that could happen...

Hi Madhulk. Do you know about carpooling? The trick is to find people who live close to each other and also work close to each other. They have huge databases to match people - I guess, like dating sites. Lois and Clark would then be an ideal match.

"What's the worst thing that could happen" may be an independent thought - i.e., not related to carpooling.

Hi, I have the feeling that "carpooling" is not a ritual which is widely known.
In the big cities (US, and probably elsewhere) rush-hour traffic is a nightmare. When people are going to work in the morning and coming home from work at night the freeways/highways/streets are so jam packed with cars that traffic sometimes comes to a standstill.

Surveys revealed that during rush hours the majority of the cars on the road had only one occupant. Campaigns by city governments to promote the use of "public transportation" met with limited success. The clogged streets were an obstruction to emergency vehicles, wasted huge quantities of fuel, caused the loss of millions of man-hours in production, and created untold stress and "road rage."

So somebody invented carpooling. Government agencies and large employers provided computer programs and data bases to match people who had common work destinations and areas of residence.

So if two people live in the same place and work in the same place, they're perfect candates for this program. They can use one car instead of two, saving fuel, reducing polution and stress, and hopefully travel time, and allowing one of the parties to do something else while the other is driving.

This program is for travelling to and from work on a daily basis, not occasional travel.
