Career prospects

Hi guys!

1. I was sent to a comprehensive school in north Dublin, which was not a place where I felt comfortable at all, TO CONTEMPLATE A FUTURE WITHOUT MUCH IN THE WAY OF CAREER PROSPECTS.

---I don't understand the capitalized part of the sentence.Does it mean that he didn't like that school because it wouldn't help him in his future career?
