Y'know those newfangled fancy electronic cards that hotels are now using for room keys? What are they called?
Well,
http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/hotelkey.asp calls 'em 'keycards' and (once) 'cardkeys', and quotes others as calling 'em 'card-keys', 'card keys' (those two by the very same person), 'key-cards', and 'key cards'. All on the same (recent) Web page!
The (well, a) problem with Google is that you can't search for
strings. Thus, for instance, it doesn't distinguish between 'key card' and 'key-card'. But here are stats:
"key card" ~87000
keycard ~61000
cardkey ~ 7270
"card-key" ~45100
And, from Google Groups (fka DN obm):
"card-key" ~ 4000
cardkey ~10400
keycard ~ 9060
"key-card" ~11900
