Question

I'm translating some captions from Japanese to English, and I'm having difficulties.....
Could you please check these captions for me?
This could be the wrong section for asking these corrections, but I don't know where to put my questions.

By "captions" do you mean for public signs? for museum displays? for photographs or drawings?

What do you mean by "facilities"? Buildings? Techniques? Can you write a few words to explain this?

The word "Site" is troublesome. What are we looking at? A lake? A mountain? A field? Something archeological? "Site" is a somewhat general word. We may be able to find a better word.

Paper Lanterns (Note spelling of 'paper'. I believe the word you want is 'lanterns')

If you could please answer some of the questions I had (above), I might be able to think of some better captions for you.

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for your reply.

The board of education in my town is now making a film(a short, breif one) to introduce our town to the guests from other countries. A historical conference is going to be held next week, and there will be some guests(archeologists) from overseas.
I'm helping them(the board of education) as a volunteer to make the film. We've almost finished it, but for the better explanations, we need to put some captions in the film.

Ths frist one, 'facilities'..... Buildings are shown in the film. The buildings were made for the purpose to revitalize agriculture of this town by producing unique Japanese food such as tofu, Japanese apricot jam, and so on.

The word 'site' .... here, it means an archeological site. There are a lot of tiny sites in the town, and in the film a scenery of one site is shown.

Paper Lanterns.... oh, yes, it should be lanterns..... !!

Making Paper.... for the people who are interested in making Japanese traditional paper can practice how to make it in the paper shop.

Sorry for my bad explanations..... I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Candy,

Now that I've read your explanations, I agree with your choices of "facilities" and "site". I would not change those.

The last one seems to me to be best captioned as "Workshop in Paper Making", where the word "workshop" means a gathering of people who wish to work together to learn something with the help of a group leader, for example. I think that is the sort of thing you are talking about.

I hope I am making this clear.
