Is there ever a time when you should capitalize the nouns, mom and dad in a sentence?

Hi, They are commonly capitalized when used as a name. In simple terms, that means that when Tom writes a letter to his father (or informally you could say to his dad ), he writes things like I'll see you next week, Dad. Best wishes, Clive

Here is an easy way to understand it that i think is easy. Replace mom or dad with a name. Like if it says mom walked down the street. Replace mom with a name. Becky walked down the street. See, it makes sence so you capitalize mom. Same thing with dad. If you capitalize mom and it sounds weird like My Angie walked down the street, it sounds weird so you don't capitalize it.
