Capitalization Rules For Words Appearing In Titles

0Hi! Great Forum!02br
02br
00I was hoping someone might help me in a project I'm working on.02br
02br
00I have about a thousand files and folders I'll be going through over the next couple months. Ranging everything from music MP3s to games to eBooks. I'm looking to be as detailed as possible when renaming each file. 02br
02br
01b00Here is my question:02b02br
02br
00Where can I find a list of all the words that should be capitalized when used in a title? 02br
02br
00For example; I'm aware that words like "01i00the02i00" and "01i00of02i00" are generally not capitalized . But I'd like to find a broader sense of what should or should not be, to ensure I am organizing an accurate and professional archive as possible.02br
02br
00Thanks for all the help!0-

0Hi Jason,02br 02br 00This is a "style" matter and not "grammar" and therefore you'll see different styles. The AP Stylebook may not agree with the Chicago Manual of Style, which may not agree with MLA or APA. 02br 02br 00But the one rule is to always be consistent.

  • 02br 02br 00When I write, the main rule of thumb is that I leave prepositions of any length, articles, and conjunctions lower case and capitalize anything else.
  • 02br 02br 00Some guides say to capitalize the prepositions if they are longer than five letters, or capitalize the first word of the second line if the header runs to a second line.
