Capitalization of Internet

Hello,
Do you always say "on the Internet", rather than "on the internet"? I see that people use both of them. Which one's more common in your experience?

Within the last ten years many publishers in the industry have switched from 'Internet' to 'internet'. Following the trend, I only use the newer version these days. Google's Ngram shows that "Internet" is still more common than "internet", however, but becoming less and less common, while the use of "internet" is increasing.
