Capitalization of chemical names

If a chemical name is the first word of a sentence, for example, "8-hydroxy-blah-blah-blah", is it OK for the "H" to be lowercase?

Top answer

Yes – hydroxy is not the first word of the sentence; that would be Eight-hydroxy. However, chemical names beginning with a numeral are fine at the start of a sentence. Rover
