Capitalization of academic subjects

I'm wondering whether both academic subjects listed below should be capitalized in the context of a resume. I was told academic subjects that are not derived from proper nouns (e.g., English, Latin, German) should not be capitalized. But I'm not sure if it would be better to bend the rules on a resume for the sake of aesthetics and consistency.

Here is how the information is listed on the resume:

Bachelor of Arts, English and history, May 1999

Thanks for your help.
