Capitalization of abbreviation

If the abbreviation "e.g." i.e. exempli gratia appears at the beginning of a sentence, should it be capitalized?

E.g., y = -1 for all distituents.
I see no reason that it shouldn't, except that it looks garish. (Perhaps that just my style sixth sense telling me to avoid this construction.)

I would rewrite or use "for example." That's not a whole sentence, anyway.

I misunderstood your example. To translate into a language I speak, I thought you'd written something with a structure like this:

E.g., warm coats for all cold people.
Nonetheless, I'd still use "for example" instead of "e.g." at the beginning of a sentence.

It should be spelled out as "For example".

For example, that should read
"For example, y = -1 for all distituents."
