Capitalization

In the sentence,

In Australia, winter begins in the month of June.

Is it correct, or should the word month be capitalized also. This is a question on our third grader's homework assignment, His teacher said it should be capped and His mom says it shouldn't. Who is correct

Thanks

Hi, 'Month' is not a proper noun, ie it's not a name. So, it doesn't need a capital. Best wishes, Clive
