Capitalization

When using Dad or Mom in a letter, do you always capitalize them. Example. We are at peace with Dad? or dad? or We spent a lot of time with our Father or father?

Capitalize it when it's used as a pronoun - i.e. instead of the person's name.

When it's just a noun, no capitalization is necessary.

For instance:
"We went with Dad." = "We went with John Smith."
"Most men will end up being someone's dad."

Same thing with father.

Mom and Dad are only capitalized when they are referring to that individual by a name. If you would referr to the person by the dame of Dad then it would be capitalized. For example Dad (direct address), are we gong to the store? or Dad said that we could go to the store.
