Capitalisation query

I am an archaeologist of some twelve years and need some help. Can anyone tell me when to use a capital P when writing about the prehistoric period?

I have always understood that time periods have capitals: Bronze Age, Iron Age, Prehistoric and Post Medieval etc.

Should I use a capital P when writing the phrase ' a prehistoric hunters tool' or 'prehistorc people'.

It seems to me that there might be a very good reason not to use a captial P in these instances, however I am not sure what that reason might be.

Any hep much appreciated.

Hi Jamie: In this case the adjective is not part of a proper noun, naming a particular thing, so I would leave it lower case. Regards, A- s
