Capital letters and articles for High Tea

Do you write 'high tea' with capital letters?
And can you say 'the/a high tea'?
Because my teacher says it's not correct to say:
"We had a high tea." instead: "We had high tea."

Hi Rainbowwalker, I myself have never heard of high tea but you would only use a capital letter if it is a name of something or the beginning of a sentence, also it is correct to say We had high tea the a or article is not necessary because it is general or an uncountable and not specific. I hope this helps. Thanks and good luck Jerseyjoe

Not unless it is the name of a play, book, article, or street.

We are having high tea at 4:00. - There is no article.

Thank you both a lot!

I found this on Wikipedia:
High tea (also known as meat tea) is an early evening meal, typically eaten between 5pm and 7pm. It is now largely followed by a lighter meal later in the evening.

It's popular in England; not so much in America I think. It's basically a meeting of nicely dressed people who have a cup of tea and scones together ar
