Capital letters

Must subjects like Math, Grammar, Reading, Geography, Physics, etc. be capitalized in a sentence?

Top answer

Subjects are not capitalized except for the names of Languages ( French, Spanish, English ... etc ) For example, Biology , English , mathematics and physics are my favourite subjects. Biology is capitalized because it happens to be the first word of the sentence.

In addition, the names of specific courses ARE capitalized.

I need to take a literature class, so I'm taking 20th Century Anti-Utopian Literature, which sounds interesting.

I used to think that only the names of Languages, as subjects, are capitalized ... So it seems to me that I got a common mistake then.
How can I know these specific courses ? any rule ?

If it is a class you can sign up for, so that when you register for it, you are registering for "20th Century Anti-Utopian Literature" and not "a literature class" it is a specific class.

Saying "I have math class at 11" is not specific. Saying "I have Linear Algebra II at 11" is specific.
