Capital letters

Hello everyone,

The other day, while I was surfing on the net, I came across a web in which it was said that the school subjects, not including the languages, weren't written with capital letters. It was also said that the seasons of the year were neither written with capital letters.

I was taugh at school that all the school subjects as well as the seasons were written with capital letters.

My question is, which one is right? Don't tell me that my English also failed in that, if it's that the case, I think I will have to start learning English from zero..

P.S: I didn't know where to write this question, I wasn't sure whether it was a grammatical question or not, so, that's why I wrote it here.

Here's my gut reaction to your question.

If the word is used as the title of the class (I'm taking Botany I and Geometry II), I would capitalize it. If it is used in a general sense (I just don't like math, but I love music theory), no capitalization is needed. Seasons are not capitalized, except in a title.

I guess he meant something like 'the name of the class or the course you're attending', for example if the class you're attending is called 'Basic Element of Maths' Philip says that you have to capitalize that but if you say 'I don't like math' speaking in general, you have not to

So, when you want to talk about a subject in concret, you have to capitalize it, however, if you are talking about something in general, there is no need, right?

What about history?
- I like history. --> It would mean that you like everything related to history.

No, sorry. If you are enrolled in a class and it is listed in the class guide as "The Life and Times of Franco" then you should capitalize it.

For example: I don't like history very much, but I do find the history of the Middle East fascinating. And I loved "History through Architecture," a course I took my senior year of college.
