Cap an amazing run

Hi, I'v got such an interesting question. It's about Cate Blanchett, an actress. What the words in bold mean in this sentence: If Blanchett really will be throttling back on the movie work, at least she's capping an amazing run with a bang.

Cate Blanchett has three children and has to limit her movie work. So capping an amazing run would be a limited run but very successful (with a bang) Am I right? Thank you.

I guess there are two ways you could look at it. (1) putting a lid on it. (2) putting a fancy hat on it.

  • The expression "topping off" comes to my mind - not like topping off your gas tank, but putting whipped cream and a cherry on the top of your dessert.

AvangiThe "amazing run" would mean a relatively long (by industry standards) series of successes, culminating in a super success. (Culminating and capping, because it's the end of this particular "run.")
I agree. My first read is: She is ending a long series of successes with a performance that is truly great.

Oh, I see, she is not acting to much, but her work is great, yeah, I got it. Thank you very much.

The thing we seem to disagree on is the throttling back. You seem to be saying that during this amazing run of hers she has been working at a reduced pace because of her three children, and that the greatness of the run is because of the high quality of her work only.

But the writer describes the throttling back as a decision she has just recently made, and he suggests tha
