1. As I'm entering the classroom, the teacher asks me to take off my hat, so I do.

Later he asks, "what were you wearing?"

And I reply with,

I was wearing a hat. Or should it be:

I've been wearing a hat.

2. I just took off my hat a few minutes ago.
I ask my classmates:

What was I wearing? Or

What have I been wearing?

Which is the correct sentence?

Which is the correct sentence? Either. Use the latter if you want to suggess you were wearing it recently and for a long period of time.
