Can't make it past the current screen

No matter how fast you try to push the "jump" button you just can't make it past the current screen.

I don't quite get the sentence. Can you say it in a different way espesially the second half of it?

The web page (application window) displays a button labeled "Jump." You can click the "jump" button as much or as fast as you can, but the display never changes.

Thank you. I thought that the "jump" button meant a button which you push during a game for example to move a character up.

Maybe I should add the context. The text is about playing video games.
