Cannot understand this particular sentence..

I get that a fading neoclassical cathedral to transportation that she stesp thourgh is supposed to be a description.. but I just don't get it.

My superficial understanding of the sentence was that she felt small and invisible due to the vastness of the cathedral... is it right?

My superficial understanding of the sentence was that she felt small and invisible due to the vastness of the cathedral... is it right? That's the general idea.

The part in bold is phrase in apposition to the 'vault'. Basically, it describes it.

Is the context that she is walking thrugh an old railway station? The writer describes the place as a church dedcated to the purpose or idea of transportation.

The barrel vault is a type of ceiling. The station (train station?) has such a ceiling, and it reminds her of a cathedral. Cathedrals in Europe often have high vaulted ceilings, to make the worshipers feel the grandeur and holiness of ***.
