Can you study something HARD?

Hi All,

For every student who studies the English language, there comes the point when we want to express just how much effort we are putting in to improve our English.

And the sentence I hear so many of us say is:

"I study English hard."

1. Is the sentence grammatically correct?
2. How formal or informal does it sound?
3. Would a native English speaker ever say he or she is STUDYING SOMETHING HARD?"
4. Is there a better way to rewrite the above sentence?

Thank you for reading my post!
