Can you spot any mistakes in my sentence?

By increasing the frequency of representatives' visits -- whether they be of local or remote companies' ones -- would not only be conducive to a more adequate career counselling service, but it would also promote (the) recruitment of College alumni.
Is the use of 'the' optional before 'recruitment' -- I think so?
