Lately I have been depressed because things are not working out as I expected. I messed up every exam; English, Economics and History. I don't know what happened to me, a few days ago I had such great prospects and now I feel I have been smacked in the face. It was so ridiculous when my teacher gave my test back to me, it was like a bolt from the blue. While my mind processed the sad truth I was totally isolated, stuck in an irrational place.
Conversely, this result has given me a shock at the beginning of term which is much better than if it had occurred at any other time. So I still have plenty of time to improve my learning skills and my marks in future. This note is the first stage, I am writing in to improve my English.

(I took out the idiom because it didn't sound natural. Also it's more common to say 'out of the blue'. use this when things happen with no warning, no one expected it at all. We were driving to the party when out of the blue a fox ran out in front of the car. you knew your teacher would give you back the test..does that make sense?)
