Can you say a shoes in conversation?

(1) I was gonna buy a pair of shoes.

I supposed to be able to say (1).

But , can I say this? Not in formal sentence, but in conversation with some close friends or the like?

(2) I was gonna buy a shoes.

Never write "gonna". It has to be "going to". Just take my word for it.
