Today different types of robots are being developed which can serve as companions and workers to help at work and at home.

Is this a positive or negative development?

The penetration of robots in work and home environments has drawn opposite opinions. Personally, although there is no doubt in the advances of robots in serving at home, the increase of robots means a concomitant increase in the unemployed rate.

On the one hand, the artificial companions are capable of taking over the chores ranging from cleaning the house and washing to cooking and entertaining the human. The efficiency of robots is shown in the case of taking care of the elderly since the bustle and hustle of society make people have less time to spend with them. In some countries, when applying robots into practice in order to attend to the older, it has brought positive results such as the rising of well-being figure and the stress of the younger is partly decrease. In addition, a robot equipped with artificial intelligence can function as a psychiatrist conducting a thoughtful conversation has proven its efficiency in reducing depression and loneliness.

On the other hand, cutting-edge robots are more self-sufficient without humans helping contribute to the consequence that the numerous workers will be jobless. The fortes of robots are working continuously, the higher accuracy and the expense for salary is reduced. Therefore, many workers are redundant and lack assistance from governments, this results in the rise of crime including robbery, burglary, and gambling as the unemployed struggle to earn their living.

In conclusion, despite its positive contribution to families, especially for the elderly, I firmly of the opinion that man-made machines can threaten our workforce in a competitive society.
