Nowadays, not enough students choose science subjects in university in many countries. Why? Effects on society??

My essay:

Gone are the days when a huge number of pupils opt for science majors in colleges in lieu of social subjects. The phenomenon stems from the nature of science subjects, which can do much harm for not only society but also the national economy.

To embark upon, the sole element attributed to the lack of widespread enthusiasm in science subjects is the nerve-racking characteristic of the subjects themselves. Those majors are usually arduous, demanding not only intellect but also an ample amount of diligence. Additionally, specialized knowledge such as physics theories or chemical experiments requires students to sacrifice many years to master. For this reason, it is beyond some students’ capability to get a comprehensive grasp of those subjects.

On no account can we ignore the looming problems. First, the lack of human resources in science professions can pose a burden on the quality of life as well as the national economic strides. As a matter of fact, a plenty of technical machines play a vital role in not only ensuring the human’s daily basic needs but also bring about huge revenues for economies. To illustrate, should some industrialized countries face the shortage of labor workforce in biochemistry, it will pose a threat to the national exports value. Second, this trend can create a workforce imbalance in different majors as more students pursue some subjects such as business. The more students those majors have, the more competitive it gets. Given the limited vacancies of those sectors, many pupils will be on the brink of unemployment, being prone to be poverty-stricken.

In short, considering the severity of this phenomenon in terms of job opportunities for young people as well as economic prosperity, governments should impose some regulations and long-term approaches to mitigate those problems.
