The Final Solution
Remembered in appearance by his short mustache, dark hair and demanding tone, Adolf Hitler is most notorious for his contributions to the killing of over 6,000,000 Jews. Hitler began rule over Germany in the year of 1934, a year after establishing his role as leader in the German political party known as the Nazi.
Nazis take on Germany was that it would become better if it were racially pure and free of Jewish people. They accused the Jews and blamed them for all kind of problems that Germany faced including WWI. The Nazis began to set in strategies hoping that in time they would run the Jewish off. The first attempt to get rid of them was by taking their rights as citizens. Jewish owned stores were boycotted and vandalized, laws were made that allowed companies to fire workers that weren’t of Aryan descent, and soon Jews were banned from almost every activity. Nazis then ordered them to leave the country in an effort to wipe out them out once and for all. Some Jews left and moved to other countries while countries including USA, France and the UK refused to take all of them in. The Nazi would eventually come up with a solution that would prove to be fatal to those that stayed.
Concentration camps were built in the 1930s, primarily to imprison Nazi enemies, such as communist and dissidents of the media. However, after 1939, during the years of World War 2, the Nazis began to open up concentration camps all over Europe. Finally, in 1942, the "Final Solution" was announced at the Wannsee Conference. The final solution was a plan to exterminate all Jews; men, women and child. Millions of Jews were relocated to concentration camps, the majority awaiting death, as others were forced into work. Most prisoners died in these camps from disease and hunger while others were tortured and killed by gas chambers or lethal injection. Afterward, they were piled atop each other as if trash and burned to dispose of the bodies.
Close to the end of the war, camps had begun experimentation on prisoners. They experimented with both the body and mind; performing surgeries, giving injections with lethal germs, making sex change operations and removal of organs and limbs. Finding interest in children, a Nazi official experimented on them, dissecting, and analyzing several for his research. Over 3,000 children that were operated on were killed from those experiments and over 1.5 million died in total.
Nearing the end of WWII, the Allies began to invade concentration camps with no knowledge of the Nazis killings. The officials decided to rid of the remaining Jews and destroy any evidence before they found out. Jews had to walk miles, day and night, to different camps most dying along the way; this became known as the Nazi death march. By 1945, the final solution which had progressed into a holocaust had ended with only a little over 150,000 surviving the brutal camps.
After World War II, the Allies were adamant on punishing Hitler and his followers for following through with the Holocaust. 22 Nazi officials, and seven assemblies that were organized to carry out the ‘final solution’, were put on trial for their crimes. Majority of the officials were put to death and sentenced to life in prison though the others including Hitler had committed suicide after being defeated in WWII.
Through what I have heard about the holocaust, I had never realized that millions of Jews had died from it. I can’t fathom how someone could have that much hate toward someone for the way that they were born. Children as young as six months were starved, killed and tortured because of what the Germans couldn’t accept.Hitler is the worst leader of all time, in my opinion. To feel like you have to murder someone to make your country better is cowardly and heartless.
The Jews were so strong throughout all of what they endured; they fought for their life to the end. Pictures of them, still standing, skinny and weak, some with small grins on their faces, will remind us of that for an eternity. Sometimes one can hear about historical events without even knowing the facts, and still know that it was something horrible. I think the holocaust is one of those things that, no matter if you add or subtract the facts, will always remain a tragic time in history. No one could ever forget how many lives were senselessly taken.
thanks so much.
